Case study
One of our clients encountered a severe storage issue with fuel oil that led to significant operational downtime.
Improper storage conditions — failing to account for the fuel oil's quality parameters and composition — resulted in a solid sediment layer of 10–30 cm forming at the tank bottom. Fuel oil, a heavy residual product from crude oil refining, contains high levels of asphaltenes, paraffins, and resins that precipitate out when temperatures drop below the recommended 50–60°C.
Our specialists conducted a detailed product analysis and developed comprehensive storage recommendations. The sediment no longer forms. This approach ensures reliable operations and prevents future costly disruptions.
Cleaning the tank required an entire month of intensive manual labor, with 12 workers removing the deposits using shovels, highlighting the risks of inadequate temperature control and pre-storage quality checks.

Case study
One of our clients faced a critical challenge in February: fuel oil arrived by rail tank cars without steam jackets, and the terminal lacked heating systems for standard wagons, with no option to return the shipment.
We rapidly assembled equipment and a team from across Europe, analyzed the fuel oil samples, and conducted experiments to determine the minimum safe storage temperature. This optimal temperature proved to be
46°C—9°C lower than the client's previous 55°C — saving significant heating costs for their 8,000 m³ tank (typically holding 5,000 m³).

Within 10 days, we installed the heating system; over the next 21 days, we raised the temperature in six tank cars from -20°C to +50°C, enabling full unloading.
